MATCH ANALYSIS

Arsenal are unbeaten in eight Europa League (EL) matches at the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners’ sole home defeat in their entire history of post-2009 EL participation being an inconsequential 2-1 reverse to Östersunds FK back in February 2018.

The ‘Gunners’ have emerged victorious with a clean sheet in their last three EL outings here, winning the first half 2-0 and the second 1-0 twice in a row.

Even if Arsenal are to concede first against Napoli, a record of  in EL home matches where they have conceded first bodes well, with both wins yielding a 3-1 scoreline.

Napoli arrive in London with a chequered away record in this season’s EL, winning once and losing once – both times by a 3-1 scoreline.

Given that, there is potential relevance in the fact that the visitors’ last four away trips (in all competitions) have produced over 1.5 goals and seen the first two match goals shared equally.

There should be no lack of action at the start though, with three of Napoli’s four EL games this year seeing them score inside the first 15 minutes of play. Additionally, three of their last four EL away goals (in 2019 alone) have arrived inside the first half-hour.

Players to watch: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the first and last Arsenal scorer in their most recent EL game here.

Both legs of the previous round saw Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik score the opening goal for his team inside the first 15 minutes.

Stat attack: Each of Arsenal’s last four competitive home games have seen them win both halves.

Across all competitions and venues, Arsenal have scored first in seven of their last nine matches.

Each of Napoli’s last six games have seen both teams score.

Crotone vs Napoli Prediction

Crotone vs Napoli

Crotone vs Napoli

In a game that seems like a complete mismatch on paper(Crotone vs Napoli), Crotone welcome table toppers Napoli to kick off the final round of Serie A games of 2017. The hosts occupy the final relegation spot with an inferior goal difference. In stark contrast, the visitors have only lost a single league game all season, and that was to their closest chasers Juventus.

One of Napoli’s key strengths is the depth of talent available to Maurizio Sarri – talent that is exemplified by the fact that their top three scorers combined make up just half of their overall goals this season. With an impressive goal difference of +28, 11 different players have scored in the league this term for the visitors.

Wolves fans will be familiar with new Crotone head coach Walter Zenga. The native Italian took over club affairs following Davide Nicola’s resignation at the start of the month, and has managed one win and two losses with the Serie A strugglers thus far. With a goal difference of -23, it is worth noting that Crotone have only managed to score 13 goals in 18 games – that is as many goals as Napoli have conceded this term!

Players to watch: Napoli’s Dries Mertens has been a revelation this year, and has been directly involved in 16 goals in the league this term with ten goals and six assists. However, the Ballon d’Or nominee is without a single goal in his last five league appearances and recently said: “My goal drought? I’m not that striker who only lives for goals, I’m not up there waiting for the ball to come. I work with and for the team.” With that in mind, Lorenzo Insigne may be a more attractive prospect after bagging a goal in each of his last two starts.

Stat attack: Crotone have lost five of their last six league games, whilst Napoli have won 11 of their last 12 away league games! Napoli have averaged 2.3 goals scored per game this season, whilst Crotone have conceded on average two goals per game. In the last five meetings between these two sides we have seen over 2.5 goals in total and four Napoli victories, and in two of the last three games, both teams have managed to find the net (BTTS).
